The SOGC also offers numerous awards bursaries and grants in recognition of the professional contributions generously offered by its members.

Definitions:
Awards
Awards handed out by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada are based on
nominations and recognition. Aside from the Journalism Awards and the Abstract Awards, most do not
include a monetary reward and do not require submissions of proposals.
Bursaries
A bursary handed out by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada is defined as a
monetary award that is given to an applicant submitting a proposal to assist in their professional
development. The purpose of this bursary is to encourage exposure to new fields for these eligible
candidates. The suitable candidates for such bursaries (physicians, nurses and midwives
and ob/gyn
residents) are encouraged to apply.
Grants
A grant handed out by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada is defined as a
monetary reward that is given to an applicant, such as an ob/gyn resident, who is submitting a proposal to
successfully complete an elective training and who is in need of financial assistance to do so.
General Guidelines:
Submissions Nominations and applications are to be submitted to the SOGC's National Office. Eligible applications
must be duly completed and must meet all listed criteria.
Deadline
Applications must be postmarked no later than the deadline indicated for each award, bursary, or grant.
Entries received past the deadline will not be considered.
Judging
Each member of the selection committee shall be given an opportunity to review and rank the
applications and to approve or decline the award, bursary, or grant according to preestablished
selection
criteria.

Awards, bursaries, and grants are limited to those listed in this document. Please note that these can be
cancelled, restricted, or modified without notice.
Presentation
The presentation shall be at the Awards Ceremony of the SOGC's Annual Clinical Meeting (ACM) unless
otherwise specified.
Recipient Information
A summary of the recipient's biography, a photograph, and a brief description of the project or
achievement may be requested for communication purposes. The SOGC reserves the right to publish a
recipient's name, occupation, picture, and description of project/accomplishments.
Disclosure
Applicants receiving additional subsidies or grants for the intended project are to declare these in their
application.
Waiting Period
Previous awardees can reapply
for the same award after a threeyear
waiting period. Unsuccessful
applicants are encouraged to update their application and resubmit
for consideration the following year.
